Glossary
The APR is a measure of the cost of credit expressed as a yearly rate. This is the interest rate, including any membership fees, which will be applied to any purchases if you do not repay your monthly balance in full. Although not a true reflection of the amount of interest you will pay – as different things you can do with your credit card are charged a varying interest rates – the APR is a good way to compare different credit cards.
The amount of credit you have used at any given date.
The standard credit limit is set at a minimum of £250 and a maximum according to your credit score. You should always be aware of what your credit limit is and should stay within it.
Many credit cards charge an annual fee for providing you with the service. The Barclaycard Student Card charges no annual fee regardless of how often you use it or how many offers you redeem.
Over limit fees are generally charged when your balance goes over your credit limit, but there are no over limit fees on your Student Barclaycard. Other administration fees that you should check for include late payment fees. Late payment fees may be charged if you miss the payment due date which is given on your credit card statement.
Each month you must pay at least the minimum repayment by the due date. This will be at least 20 days after your statement date. We recommend that you set up a Direct Debit. This ensures that we receive at least the minimum repayment on your account, on time, each month. By doing this you will avoid paying any Late Payment Fees. If you can afford it then set up a direct debit to pay the full amount each month. Please remember that if you only pay the minimum balance it will take you longer to clear your balance and you will pay more in interest charges.
To set up a Direct Debit, just call 0870 154 0154* with your current account details.
If you pay your account in full by the Payment Due Date on your statement, you will not be charged any interest and benefit from a period of interest free credit. With your Student Card this period may be up to a maximum of 56 days, depending on the date of your purchase.
If you don’t want to set up a direct debit then you can register and we’ll send a text message to your mobile phone five days before your Barclaycard payment is due. Providing the minimum monthly repayment reaches us by the due date, you’ll avoid any charges for late payment.
To register, call us on 0870 154 0154

Chip & PIN is part of an initiative across Europe to cut the rising tide of payment card fraud. This new, safer card payment method uses Chip technology and involves entering your PIN, just as you would at a cash machine, into a keypad instead of signing a till receipt whenever you pay in person in shops, restaurants and pubs etc. This means it's more important than ever to remember your PIN.
Identity theft occurs when someone steals the identity of an innocent victim to apply for mortgages, loans, credit cards, goods and services in their name.
